Today we are all busy running around without taking time out to relax - a basic product of the hectic and time consuming modern day lifestyle most of us lead today. Relaxation is key to fighting stress along with many other factors including diet, sleep and environmental factors. We need to learn to regain the balance of a healthy lifestyle and manage our stress.

What happens when we are stressed

When faced with a scenario that makes you react, it triggers the release of chemicals into the body, these include cortisol, adrenaline and noradrenaline. Their design is based on primitive responses learned from our anscestors to ensure we are to 'fight or flight' - actions which would help us deal with dangerous situations. However, it is often in chronic stress cases that these chemicals are released even when not in dangerous situations and this is this scenario that causes most distress to the suffurer. For instance, being on an overcrowded train, these chemicals are not needed by the body to fight of escape, and instead cause stress.

When these chemicals build up from not being used, their effects are felt by the body and the by the person with devastating effect. This build-up of adrenaline and noradrenaline increases blood pressure, heart rate, and the amount that you sweat. Cortisol prevents your immune system from functioning as well as it should , and releases fats and sugars into the blood stream.

How does stress affect the body

It can increase the heart rate to dangerous levels, increase and fluctuate blood pressure and raise it permanently, increase your breathing rate and make it difficult to control . especially in difficult circumstances, reducing the body's ability to intake oxygen or over oxygenate the body, restrict the blood flow to major organs and circulation to muscles, cause additional tension overall.

These body functions of increase stress can have some very unpleasant side effects, including dizziness, poor memory, headaches, IBS, pains in legs and arms, anxiety and even lead to depression, poor sex drive and improper sexual function to name only a few.

Relaxation is one major effective ways to implement a lasting decrease of stress levels of which there are many forms available, that's where we can help.
